About this office
Texas is divided into 38 areas called districts, each with about 800,000 people. Every two years your district elects one U.S. Representative — one of 435 in Washington, and the only one who answers to you. They vote on laws that touch your health care, your taxes and your rights.

About Johnny
A San Antonio native, Garcia worked in construction before joining the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, where he talked down hostage situations and now speaks for the department. He's the Democratic pick for this seat, winning his spot with about 64% of the vote.

Backed by Donald Trump, he beat a sitting state lawmaker to become the Republican pick. His sister, Monica De La Cruz, already represents a nearby Texas district in Congress.
