TEXAS MIDTERM 2026
WHY THIS RACE MATTERS
Your State Representative is one of 150 people who write Texas law, and yours is elected to represent your area of Hays County.
WHO’S RUNNING
Shiloh Salazar
Democrat
Salazar spent five years as a federal-level advocate on Medicaid and early-childhood programs before running for this West Texas seat, calling for Texas to expand Medicaid to help stabilize struggling rural hospitals.
Drew Darby
Republican
Darby has represented San Angelo and eight surrounding West Texas counties in the Texas House since 2007, and in 2025 he cast the deciding vote to move Texas's private-school voucher program forward even after calling himself "deeply skeptical" of it.
