TEXAS MIDTERM 2026
WHY THIS RACE MATTERS
The County Judge leads Tarrant County's Commissioners Court, which sets the county budget and tax rate, runs the jail and county roads, and draws the commissioner precinct maps.
WHO’S RUNNING
Tim O'Hare
Republican
Even though voters elected 2 commissioners from each party, in 2025 O'Hare led a mid-decade vote to redraw the Commissioner District lines. The new lines were drawn to give O'Hare's party a decisive 3 to 1 advantage, substantially reducing the power of Democratic votes in the county. "This is about Republican versus Democrat, period," he told WFAA, Dallas's ABC station.
Alisa Simmons
Democrat
Simmons is one of 4 Tarrant County Commissioners and one of two Democrats. Tim O'Hare, the incumbent County Judge, led the 2 Republican Commissioners to win a mid-decade 3-2 vote to redraw the commissioners' district lines, with Simmons' district being the most negatively impacted. The new lines diluted the number of Democratic voters in her district, decreasing her chance of re-election. Instead of giving up in defeat, she went a step above and set out to defeat O'Hare in his pursuit of reelection as County Judge.
Bryan Kidd
Green
Kidd is the Green Party candidate for County Judge.
