TEXAS MIDTERM 2026
WHY THIS RACE MATTERS
The Criminal District Attorney is the county's top prosecutor.
WHO’S RUNNING
Phil Sorrells
Republican
As Tarrant County's District Attorney, Phil Sorrells decides which crimes get prosecuted. When he took office in 2023, one of his first moves was starting a special unit to hunt for voter fraud, with fellow Republican Tim O'Hare, the head of county government. In three years, the task force received only 193 tips. Two people have been charged with misdemeanor crimes, but no one has been convicted.
Tiffany Burks
Democrat
Ask people in Fort Worth's Northside who their District Attorney is, and Tiffany Burks says most have no idea. But the DA decides who gets charged with a crime, and who goes to prison. Burks, an attorney, spent 22 years as a prosecutor in that office, rising to help run its criminal division. Now she wants to run the whole thing.
