TEXAS MIDTERM 2026
WHY THIS RACE MATTERS
County Commissioners are four of the five members of the Commissioners Court, which sets Tarrant County's budget and tax rate and oversees roads, the jail, and county services.
WHO’S RUNNING
Manny Ramirez
Republican
Tarrant's five-member county board decides how many places you can vote. On Sept. 1, 2026, Manny Ramirez, the Precinct 4 commissioner, joined the board's two other Republicans in a 3-2 vote that cut this November's polling places from 316, the number in the 2022 midterm, to 224. Supporters said the cuts save money and still meet the legal minimum.
Nydia Cárdenas
Democrat
When Nydia Cárdenas knocks on doors and mentions the county's five-member board, many people don't know it controls county money, taxes and elections. Some ask, "Oh, is that the one where the guy kicks everybody out and he's rude?" She tells them, "Yes, that's the one." Now she's running to join it.
