Tarrant's five-member county board sets your property tax rate and decides where you vote. In June 2025, its Republican majority redrew Precinct 2, the seat held by Democrat Alisa Simmons, cutting its share of minority residents from 60% to 45%. Less than a day later, Tony Tinderholt, a Republican state lawmaker from Arlington, announced he would run for it.

Tinderholt has served in the Texas House since 2015, after time in the Air Force and the Army, including in Iraq. In 2017 he filed a bill to ban all abortion in Texas, under which women who had one and doctors who performed one could face murder charges.
