Childs is a lawyer and educator currently serving on the Texas State Board of Education, and she founded the Sunnyside Legal Clinic to help local families with legal issues.
She won the May 2026 Democratic runoff for this open Houston-area seat with about 62% of the vote, succeeding longtime Rep. Alma Allen.
