Shelley Luther, Republican candidate for TX State House • District 62

Shelley Luther

Candidate for TX State House • District 62Republican

Who Shelley is

She was sentenced to a week in jail for keeping her Dallas hair salon open during the COVID-19 lockdown — though she served only about two days before Gov. Abbott and the Texas Supreme Court got her released — and it's the reason she's in the Texas House today.

About Shelley

Luther owned Salon À La Mode in Dallas and became a national conservative folk hero in 2020 when she reopened in defiance of a court's stay-at-home order, tore up the cease-and-desist notice, and was jailed for contempt of court before the Texas Supreme Court ordered her released. She turned that fame into a political career, winning the Texas House District 62 seat (Grayson, Fannin, Franklin, and Delta counties) in 2024, and is now running for re-election in 2026 with endorsements from President Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz, and Gov. Abbott. [WFAA, Fox4, Dallas Observer]
