Justice courts in Texas handle small claims up to $10,000, evictions, and minor crimes filed by local police, according to Tarrant County. Sergio De Leon, a Democrat, is the Precinct 5 judge seeking another term.

The county says De Leon was elected in November 2012, after about 12 years as Precinct 5 constable. He is a Fort Worth native who grew up in Arkansas, has a political science degree from Texas Wesleyan, and in 1992 coordinated Bill Clinton's presidential campaign in Tarrant County.

Judges aren't allowed to take sides on these values — it's against judicial ethics rules. The best clue to how a judge thinks is the party they run with.
