Judges on the 371st District Court preside over felony cases, the serious crimes prosecuted in Tarrant County. Ryan Hill, a former prosecutor, was appointed to it by Governor Abbott on March 23, 2022, then won election to the seat that November.

Before that, Hill was the Tarrant DA's chief prosecutor for mental-health crossover cases and earlier worked for the Johnson and Hood county attorney offices. He is board certified in criminal law and coaches youth sports. His campaign says he will "follow the law as written" and that his court closed 128% of the cases filed in 2026.

Judges aren't allowed to take sides on these values — it's against judicial ethics rules. The best clue to how a judge thinks is the party they run with.
