Before he was a congressman, Roger Williams was a minor-league baseball player in the Atlanta Braves' farm system until an injury ended his career.

A Fort Worth native who played baseball at TCU and was drafted by the Braves in 1971, Williams came home to run his family's car dealership, founded by his father in 1939, after his baseball career ended. He served as Texas Secretary of State from 2004 to 2007 and has represented TX-25 in Congress since 2013, where he now chairs the House Small Business Committee.

Corruption & Democracy

Roger Williams

Williams is an original cosponsor of the SAVE Act, a law requiring proof-of-citizenship documents to register to vote, which voting-rights groups say would make it harder for eligible citizens, especially those without easy access to birth certificates or passports, to register. [Congress.gov]
