Before she was a state lawmaker, Rhetta Andrews Bowers was a TV news reporter, and she made history as the first person of Caribbean descent elected to represent her Texas House district.
Bowers has represented District 113 (parts of Mesquite, Garland, and Rowlett) since 2019 and serves as Vice Chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety. A Spelman College and Texas Southern University graduate who started her career as a broadcast journalist, she's running for re-election on a platform of expanding healthcare access, opposing private school vouchers, and gun safety.
