When a neighbor dispute, an unpaid debt or a ticket needs a judge, a Justice of the Peace makes the call. Lisa Woodard, a Democrat, is the Precinct 8 judge, and her county bio says she is serving a fourth term.

Woodard started as a Tarrant County clerk more than 30 years ago and worked up through the ranks. She was elected judge in 2010, described by the county as the first African American woman elected to the Precinct 8 seat. She grew up in Fort Worth public schools and graduated from Trimble Tech High School.

Judges aren't allowed to take sides on these values — it's against judicial ethics rules. The best clue to how a judge thinks is the party they run with.
