When parents divorce or split up, family court judges decide custody, visitation and child support. Crystal Gayden, a Democrat, has spent 12 years as a family lawyer with her own firm in Tarrant County, and she is running for the 324th Family District Court.
Gayden ran for this same court in 2022 and lost. She led the Tarrant County Democratic Party from 2023 until she stepped down in 2025, and she is president of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Tarrant County. She says she wants to "restore compassion" and connect families with resources.
Judges aren't allowed to take sides on these values — it's against judicial ethics rules. The best clue to how a judge thinks is the party they run with.
