Judges on the 432nd District Court oversee felony cases, the serious crimes charged in Tarrant County. Courtney Miller, the Democratic candidate, has worked both sides: first as a prosecutor in Collin County, and now as a defense lawyer handling felony cases.

Miller studied English at TCU and law at Texas Tech. In Collin County she moved from misdemeanor prosecutor to misdemeanor court chief to felony prosecutor. She served as a Democratic precinct chair, and this is her first run for judge. Her campaign says an unfounded State Bar grievance was filed against her.

Judges aren't allowed to take sides on these values — it's against judicial ethics rules. The best clue to how a judge thinks is the party they run with.
