12th Court of AppealsChief Justice
Republican
Brian Hoyle has been an appellate judge in Tyler for nearly two decades, first appointed to the bench by Governor Rick Perry back in 2006 at age 37.
Hoyle grew up in Mansfield, Texas, earned his law degree at Baylor, and clerked for a federal judge in Tyler before spending a decade in civil litigation practice in Longview. He's served as a Justice on the 12th Court of Appeals since 2006 and is now running for Chief Justice after the current chief announced his retirement.
Judges aren't allowed to take sides on these values — it's against judicial ethics rules. The best clue to how a judge thinks is the party they run with.
